University Of Maiduguri Matriculates 9,429 New Students


The University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID, had yesterday matriculated 9,429 students to mark its 37th Matriculation.

The November 16th event, which held at the university’s Convocation Square was conducted by Prof. Ibrahim A. Njodi, the vice chancellor who also congratulated the newly admitted students on a note of welcome.

In his speech, the vice-chancellor advised the new students to be aware of why they are in the institution and thus maintain discipline by avoiding such things as examination malpractice, cultism, organised crimes, among other despicable acts.

He further assured the new and returning students of the institution's determination to protect lives and properties to enable them go about their studies.

Njodi also seized the opportunity to sympathise with those who are unable to secure admission into the university despite meeting the requirement.

He noted that this was in view of the quota allocated to the institution by the National Universities Commission, NUC, which is short by over 26,000 of the applications it received.

Speaking to YerwaExpress, the students expressed happiness for getting admission into the institution.

A newly-admitted student of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Shallangwa Pauline said, ‘I am very happy to be admitted into this prestigious university’.

Salisu Fahad Wakil however, urged ‘the university management to continue making effort in providing security within the campus’.

Sara Ugochukwu, a parent, also called on university to focus on ensuring security in the campus.

‘We pray the management for security in the school so that our children will live and study comfortably’, Sara said.
