TECHnTECH: Converting Hard Drives From GPT To NTFS Format

One problem that has become a norm when trying to install windows on latest computers is the issue of hard drive format (Table). As most come in the GPT format found on Apple systems.

Here, we will learn how to convert a GPT to NTFS format.
Use any Windows 7 or 8 bootable disk. When you're asked what hard drive to install to, press Shift+F10 and a Command Prompt window will appear.

Enter the following commands:
  1. DISKPART
  2. LIST DISK
  3. SELECT DISK # (Where # is the number you saw in the previous step)
  4. CLEAN
  5. CONVERT MBR
  6. CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=250000 (The size is in MB, so enter the amount that you want to use for your system partition, here we use 25000MB = 250GB)
  7. FORMAT FS NTFS LABEL "SYSTEM" QUICK
Close the Command Prompt. Refresh the installer window and it should show the new partition layout. Select the partition you created to install Windows 7 or 8, and click Next.

WARNING: YOU ARE ADVISED TO BACKUP THE HARD DISK BEFORE THIS PROCESS AS THE ENTIRE HARD DISK WILL BE CONVERTED AND ALL DATA WILL BE LOST.
